On Wednesday, Sue Simcox took her Grade 10 girls counselling group out for Iftar and a good time was had by all. Sue tells me she has never seen such a small group of girls eat so much. They came home rubbing their stomachs and smiling. This must be a good sign!!
Volleyball Tournament
On Tuesday evening we organised a volleyball tournament for the students in the dormitory. Although Jill and Pat’s team played valiantly they took last place but would like to thank their brave team members Minji Kim, Syafiqa Harun and Haya Husain. Congratulations goes to Ahmed Ansari, Malek Nehlawi, Sammi Samad, Khalid Chaar and Ahsan Ayub who won all their games. For the next competition we are going to ask them to play left handed so that the rest of us have a chance!!! A big thank you to everyone who participated.
Teatro
The dormitory hosted a welcome dinner at Teatro in the Dana Mall. Dormitory students were encouraged to invite their day-student friends. It was a very pleasant way to introduce all the students to each other. We have also held a two-on-two basketball competition. This included combined teams with dormitory staff. Walid Chatila and Reem Yousif narrowly beat Zainab Siddiqui and Ahsan Ayub in the final. Pat Smith and Azmi Azhari fought valiantly to win the wooden spoon despite Jill Jones and Azmi Negro best efforts.
Welcome Back
The Dormitory staff welcomes new and returning students for the 2007 08-school year. We are looking forward to a successful year. Academically, the class of 2008 has been set a very high benchmark by our outgoing students. In particular the School and Dormitory are very proud of the final Diploma scores achieved by our International Baccalaureate students who once again excelled.
We welcome two new staff; Bill and Sue Simcox. Bill and Sue are parents whose 2 grown up children who are in the UK attending university and working full time. They have a strong background in education and health and have worked with students from many ethnic backgrounds and cultures. I am sure they will be well liked and respected by our student body.
Bill will be a full time house parent who will be helping to bolster our activity program with some new ideas and supporting ones that are already popular with the students. Sue will take over the nursing duties in addition to her role as a full time house parent.
Finally a reminder to parents:
- Please keep in touch and pay us a visit when you come to Bahrain.
- Do let us know if any of your contact details have changed.
- Please let us know if you are travelling and may be difficult to contact.
- Please check each week that your child’s Saudi residence and re-entry permits are valid and they have their passports with them when they cross the causeway each week.

PROM
At the end of the last School year Mr. Adel Al Mehaazzah of the Saudi Bahrain Transport Company kindly organized for those dormitory students attending the prom to travel in style and gave us the use of the specially adapted limousine called the Black Beauty. The students were thrilled. The Dormitory provided sparking apple juice for the children to toast their prom night. All had great fun.
Alan Law
Mr Alan Law retired from the BISA board after over twenty years of voluntary service. He took a particular interest in the smooth running of the dormitory and will be greatly missed. The Chairman, Mr. Mohamed Al Khateeb is seen here with other members of the board presenting Alan with a leaving gift. We all wish Alan and his wife Penny all the very best in their retirement.
